La sodomie
Sodomy is sexual intercourse that involves penetration of the anus or the partner, usually with the penis or with an object used as a phallus.
Statistics
Fifteen years after the second national survey on sexual behavior of the French (ACSF, 1992), INSERM, ANRS and INED conducted a new investigation ‘Context of Sexuality in France’ (CSF) from 18 – 69. According to the survey, 37% women and 45% of men have already experienced (against respectively 24% and 30% in 1992). However, the practice remains marginal, with 12% of women aged 25-49 say the practice often or sometimes. Detailed analysis of the ACSF survey showed that sodomy was performed with a frequency of 1 to 3% during sexual intercourse. United States, sodomy is not entered in the regular practices of Americans: 9% Of respondents in the large national survey NHSLS (National Health and Social Life Survey, conducted in 1992) reported having had anal intercourse during the past year and only 2% of men and 1% of women at their last sexual encounter. Figures quite similar to the national study conducted in Australian Ashr 2001-2002: 0.9% of men and 0.7% of women aged 16-59 years had practiced sodomy during their last sexual . It seems that sodomy should be tried early in the sexual life (without prejudice to the integration in the usual sexual repertoire). In 2000, Baldwin and Baldwin published a detailed study on anal intercourse in a heterosexual population of U.S. students (mean age: 20 1 / 2 years, 63% of responses came from women): 78% had had vaginal intercourse and 18% anal intercourse. Among non-virgins, 22.9% Had also already practiced sodomy (average age 18 1 / 2, while the average age of first vaginal intercourse was 16 1 / 2). It was mostly boys (28% of male non-virgin of the study) than females (19% of non-blank) but the authors see this difference disappear once other variables (influencing the fact having anal intercourse) taken into account.
Anal sex and virginity
In certain social or religious, sodomy may also be an alternative to vaginal penetration not to break the hymen of women before marriage or prevent fertilization, where it has long been highly recommended as a means of birth control including through code written for this purpose by the religious leaders. In his novel ‘The fascination of the worst’ (Editions Flammarion), Florian Zeller writes on page 51, ‘From what they told me, strange as it sounds, (…) in certain ultra-Catholic families of Versailles (…) the girls wanted was not to be deflowered before marriage. That is why they were sodomized by their teenage lover. ‘
Suppression
Sodomy cons reproduction
Practices regarded as deviant as not leading to reproduction, surrounded by taboos related to excretory functions (the anus is concerned), especially in cultures where these natural functions are considered shameful, sodomy is perceived in very different ways in different societies and religions. Today, some countries still criminalize sodomy between consenting adults, even going so far as to require the death penalty (A little less than a dozen countries to this day, it was still the case in some states United until the years 1950-60, as Nevada). Further, these convictions are often related to homosexuality.
Sodomy and male potency
In ancient Rome, a free man sodomizing his slaves manifested his power. In contrast, a free man sodomized is debased to a lower rank, and this passivity was seen as shameful. During the slave trade, slaves were often raped by their masters, who heard and assert their authority.
Legal Aspects
In English, sodomy refers not only to anal penetration. In expressions like sodomy law, law governing the accepted practices or prohibited in a particular U.S. state should be understood as sodomy considered deviant sexual practice, including, besides sodomy could be counted fellatio and cunnilingus. These laws, generally, were ways to ban homosexuality. They relied on a stereotype of being gay male sodomites, while this practice is not accepted by all homosexuals and heterosexuals also practice it.
Section 377 of Indian Penal Code, entitled ‘Crimes against nature’ punishes ‘the carnal knowledge against the order of nature ‘to a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment.
In 2003, the Supreme Court of the United States has declared unconstitutional the laws of some federal states against sodomy. They violate the fourteenth amendment of the constitution whose interpretation protects the privacy and liberty of American citizens. Thirteen states, located mostly in the south of the country, practiced until laws against sodomy between consenting adults, four of whom also condemned blowjobs: Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
On 1 July 2006, Zimbabwe appears to Article 73 of the criminal law, threatening the one practicing sodomy of two years in prison although the law explicitly mentions sodomy, seems rather to refer to homosexuality.
In Saudi Arabia, all acts of sodomy committed by a non-Muslim with a Muslim is punishable by stoning.
Etymology
The word sodomy comes from the name of the city of Sodom, according to the Bible, was destroyed by God after its inhabitants had tried to rape the angels of God among refugees Lot, the nephew of Abraham. (See the episode Sodom and Gomorrah). In this episode, there is no explicit mention of sodomy as it is currently defined: other references to the sin of Sodom in the Bible refer rather to the lack of hospitality is very important in the ancient Near East (Ezek. 16.49, 23.14, Jr., Sir. 16.8; Lk 10.10-12). The interpretation in terms of sodomy or homosexuality begin to appear with the late Jewish apocalyptic and Hellenized Jews in the early second century. Origen (185-253) and St. Ambrose of Milan (340-397), yet great enemies of the sin of flesh, evoke the breach of hospitality. Probably in reference to alliances prohibited between the son of God and daughters of humans that cause the anger of God in Genesis. 6.1 to 4, the comments attributed to Jews prohibited relationships between women of Sodom and the angels. Thus, until the seventeenth century, the term covering a range of sodomy sex frowned, not just anal or homosexual. In some contexts, including legal classifications of certain federal states of the United States of America, the term sodomy to include other sexual practices deemed deviant by some, including cunnilingus and fellatio (oral contact and gender) . German (sodomy) and Norwegian (sodomy), the term does not refer to anal penetration means but bestiality.
In a similar manner, the term ‘bugger’ (Latin Bulgarus, giving the former French Bogra) originally meant the Bogomil (‘Friends of God’ from Bulgarian bog ‘god’ and mile ‘friend’) members of a heterodox sect near Bulgarian Cathar movement. They had accused the Bogomil sin of sodomy to – among others – to deride. ‘Bougre’Therefore came to not only designate the Bulgarian Bogomil, but so insulting sodomites. By fading, the term designated a ‘fellow’ and finally an ‘individual’. The English cognate bugger kept the original meaning of sodomite.
Origin of sodomy
In the West, most doctors and sexologists from the eighteenth to early twentieth century believed that there was an instinct of reproduction. For this reason, such as sodomy can not fertilization, it was a work against nature. She came necessarily a moral vice or a disruption of the sexual instinct.
In the 2000s, neuroscience research has shown that humans stimulate their erogenous zones because it provides rewards / reinforcements in the brain. These awards, especially orgasm, are perceived by consciousness as sensations of erotic pleasure and enjoyment. In simple terms, human beings seek sexual activities, such as sodomy, as they provide intense erotic pleasures.
In humans (and the chimpanzee, the bonobo, the orang utan, etc..) Sexual behavior is no longer a breeding behavior, but becomes an erotic behavior. During evolution, the importance and influence of hormones and pheromones on sexual behavior has decreased. Instead, the importance of rewards has become major. In humans, the purpose of sexual behavior is more vaginal intercourse but the search for erotic pleasures, provided by the stimulation of the body and erogenous zones.
For these reasons, sodomy regarded by some as ‘biologically normal’ and can not be considered an act ‘against nature’, a psychological disease or disorder. In humans, the purpose of erotic behavior is the pursuit of sexual pleasures, new, varied and intense.
Fun is clearly the source of sodomy for the man who achieves penetration. The anal opening is surrounded by sphincter muscles that give intense pressure on the penis, which increases erotic feelings. This anatomical feature, with the addition of a lubricant, said that some men prefer anal sex to vaginal intercourse.
For the person who is penetrated during anal sex, motivations are partly different. The anus is not as spontaneous as erogenous genitals, and sometimes you have to repeat regularly the stimulation to arouse erogenous sensitivity of the anal region. Being sodomized is not a favorite activity for most people. Nevertheless, about one third of people who regularly practice this activity indicates a feel intense erotic pleasure and experience orgasms.
For people who regularly practice sodomy is a sexual preference, which is formed during the life the same way as food preferences, olfactory or musical.
